I thought for sure that by now you would have a commentary on why
‘Lost’, for the second year in a row, was not nominated for any emmy
awards. The critics are obviously somewhat annoyed with the show's
convolution; else how could a show like "Heroes," with its inferior
storytelling, acting, and overall production value (it's basically a
Lost knock-off), receive any nods? Makes me wonder....
So, my friend wrote me (we’ll call him C. Ewell, no, Casey E.). He wanted to know why I haven’t written anything about the Emmys yet and Lost getting snubbed. First off, Lost should be nominated for best drama, not only because it’s the most amazing piece of television on everyone’s HDTV, laptop, and iPhone right now, but because it was nominated for best acting (Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn), best writing, and best directing. Doesn’t best drama mean best acting, writing, and directing? Of course, I personally could care less about the Emmys, Oscars, Grammys, or even Tonys for that matter; it’s just a bunch of hullabaloo decided by stuffed shirts on limited exposure of what they think the “best” of something is. As has recently been discussed, String Theory should be used to decide these types of things (see Applying String Theory to Album Reviews).
More thoughts:
I’m glad to see that 24 got left off the ballot this year. I’m sorry, but season 6 was a joke. If you haven’t seen it yet “you’re just gonna have to trust me. I’m Jack Bauer! I’ve never been wrong!”
Two and a Half Men got nominated again. Boo! Is this show even funny? I’ve never really watched it, but my grandma says it is.
Jason Lee didn’t get nominated. That’s unfortunate; the Emmy deciders are obviously anti-mustache-ites.
John Krasinski failed to receive a nom either; his facial expressions alone should’ve been enough.
The Shat was nominated for best supporting actor in a drama series. I….have….no….opinion….on….that.

Let's look at who the outstanding drama contestants are.
1) Grey's Anatomy. I have yet to read a review about this show that doesnt' talk about how hunky or hot the actors/actresses are. That doesn't make you a good drama though.
2) Boston Legal. Wasn't this The Practice? Seriously. They just renamed the show.
3) Heroes. Um, it's new. So it's got that going for it.
4) House. Hugh Laurie makes this show. If he's not that good, this show gets cancelled two seasons ago.
5) The Sopranos. Jed may not have seen an episode of this, and he's blinded by his Lost lust, so he's perhaps missed a little here.
Even if Lost was nominated, it would lost to The Sopranos. The Sopranos win will be like a lifetime achievement award.
Actually, asmith, according to my 'string theory' calculations, 'Lost' would beat out 'The Sopranos' based solely on mass appeal. It's science. Sorry.
I certainly don't disagree with how much mass appeal Lost has, especially coming off the last half-season and finale. (I'm told that the previous season left a little to be desired. However, the show is now going somewhere.)
What I will disagree with is that Lost would beat The Soprano's (not on String Theory, wherein Soprano's would have a higher concentration of scores, but Lost would have higher mass appeal and win out). It's simply an award sitting there for the Soprano's to take this year. I bet the show will win nearly every category, if not sweeping, it is nominated for.
Yes. Yes. Thank you. You've just proven my point: the Emmys, or any other awards, are usually arbitary and capricious.
Based on mass appeal 'Grey's Anatomy' would totally win out; based on witty banter: 'Boston Legal;' and based on pure awesomeness: 'Lost.'
'The Sopranos' will win; a lot of it will be based on a 'lifetime achievement award'--the 'swan song' award.
It's like Martin Scorsese winning the best picture for 'The Departed,' when he should've won for much better films like 'Raging Bull' and 'Goodfellas.'
In other words, there's no real criteria to judge these shows; it's seems to be based on voting whims and hype.
