"The Mormons" on PBS

I know that many of you have been wondering about the religion we belong to. It appears PBS has graciously decided to clear up anything that we've missed. Here's the preview. Compliments of Mylissa.

hmmm...that'll be interesting. I heard it was supposed to be a program that showed not bias or anything like that. I wonder how it will be recieved from Mormons and non-Mormons as well. I'm not quite sure I liked how on the trailer it made our end of the practice of polygamy like we submitted to conformity-to fit into our country or something like that...As opposed to a revelation that was given that stated it that the practice wasn't neccessary any longer. What do you think? Did it come off that way?

Most anytime a media outlet will cover a religion, they tend to shy away from using words like "revelation" and "commmandments." Rather, the media outlet will present the information from a factual basis - i.e. the religion once practiced a certain way, now practices a different way.

Media coverage for other religions is very similar, although the focus on doctrine will vary, depending on the religion.

Wow. Aaron you're deep and such.

So, I watched the first half of "The Mormons" yesterday. I thought that if I wasn't a member of the Church it would freak me out with mentions of polygamy, Mountain Meadows Massacre, and Joseph Smith's sometimes odd behavior. But, being a member of the Church it was interesting to hear other people's perspective on how they view our religion. I think that one way to understand ourselves is to understand how others view us.
